As from www.adultswim.com ... Created by Rumiko Takahashi (creator of Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku and Ranma 1/2), InuYasha was first serialized in manga form in the weekly magazine Shonen Sunday. After over twenty years as a manga author, Rumiko Takahashi has been credited as the first major female author to write shonen manga "boy's manga" and has been given the name "Princess of Manga" by her fans. In 1976 she won the prized Shogakukan "New Artist Award" and in 1994 was awarded the "Inkpot Award" at San Diego Comic-Con. A student of famed manga author Kazuo Koike, Takahashi underwent many difficulties in the early years of her career, including sharing a 150 square-foot apartment with her two assistants. In 1981 her manga was translated into anime form for the first time with Urusei Yatsura, directed by the then-unknown Mamuro Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh the Wolf Brigade). Inu-Yasha Sengoku o Togi Zoshi (InuYasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale) was first published in 1996 and made its screen debut as an anime on October 16, 2000. The anime series ended in Japan on September 13, 2004 with a total of 167 episodes. In 2002 InuYasha began airingon Adult Swim to resounding popularity and continues to be a fan favorite.
